About Jawaja Leather Association

Initiated in 1975, Jawaja Leather Association (JLA) is a constituent association of the Artisans’ Alliance  of Jawaja (AAJ), which is managed independently by the artisans themselves through a democratic system  of governance that is linked to its history. The entity has been a source of sustainable income and  livelihood opportunities for all its artisans. It has reinstated a sense of dignity among the artisans and  has instilled in them a spirit of self-reliance.

We, at JLA, are a true representation of ‘handmade in India’, as our product line is handcrafted end-to- end and uses all-natural materials. This lends a unique identity to the products, which are recognized worldwide for their sustainable processes and stress on ethical and conscious consumerism. The products created at JLA include bags, belts, boxes, document-holders, folders, trays, wallets, and many more! Our Jawaja range contains a classic collection, which has been in demand for over three decades, and new collections created through artisan-designer partnerships to cater to the needs of a contemporary market.

The Jawaja artisans now have steady incomes and an enviable international reputation. The wave of socio-economic empowerment has inspired the younger generation to come back to their traditional craft. A revival of leathercraft has opened new avenues of education and employment for the entire community at Jawaja block and has improved the overall quality of life in the region.
